I’ve been struggling to find enough hours in my day and to carry out everything on my to-do list.  Each day I’d tell myself the same thing, “Once I get the kids tucked into bed, I’ll get this project done and that task done etc. etc. etc.”  All day long, I’d be adding things to my nightly list and thinking about all that I could accomplish once the sun goes down and my down-time begins.

Every night that time would come and go and instead of my list growing shorter it continued to get longer.  I was much too tired at the end of my day to be productive.  Recently, I unlocked my secret to the good life!  A life positioned for exceptional productivity and success!

My secret to the good life

Last month, I was challenged by a friend to read Ruth Soukup’s book, Living Well Spending Less, this year.  I haven’t read an entire book since I had kids and was cringing at the thought of having to fine-tune my schedule to fit reading in somewhere.  I am so thankful I did because this book offers creative and practical tips and suggestions to transform multiple areas of your life.  I couldn’t put it down and finished it in under a week!

“She’s up before dawn, preparing breakfast for her family and organizing her day.” (Prov 31:15)

What spoke to me the most was that Ruth begins her day at 4:00 a.m.  I instantly felt driven to tighten my nightly routine and readjust my wake up time.  I knew it was going to be a difficult habit to form but the thought of all I could complete during the early morning hours excited me immensely!  I was a night hawk – heading to bed between 12 & 1 a.m. and waking up around 6:30 a.m to squeeze in a run before my day officially started at 7:30 a.m.

I have found more time in my day!  By the time 7:30 a.m. rolls around, I have already tackled the most important tasks on my list for the day.  It feels incredible knowing these responsibilities have already been met and they are positioning me closer to achieving my goals and dreams!

Looking back, I now see how much energy I wasted on simply thinking about (and dreading) all that I had left to do.  Ironically the book I believed I had no time to read, added an extra 2.5 hours to my day!  I wake up with a peaceful mind, heart and home and I cannot believe I ever lived without this mindset before.  I am sharing this with you to enlighten you on a life changing secret to the good life and all the success it can bring!
