As you may recall, we recently overcame a huge hurdle: attending birthday parties.  Today, I am happy to say: We did it!  We accomplished a playground together and not only did no one break a limb or get lost, but I still have my sanity.  Or am I insane for going to a park on my own with four under four?

We did it!

We had an early start to our day as my oldest daughter, A, had dance class at 9 a.m.  I was feeling adventurous so I packed the kid’s hats, along with some extra water and snacks.  It was a gorgeous sunny day – definitely perfect park weather!

The kids were thrilled! They were excited to explore, test their limits and try new things.  Honestly, I was a little apprehensive and when they each headed in opposite directions I could feel the panic mode kick in but thankfully it was short-lived.  We stayed and conquered that place!

Now I realize this may seem trivial to some; however, it feels like an Olympic event to me.  Keeping two two-year-olds, a four year-old and a ten month old safe and happy while scheduling it in between nursing, diaper changes and nap times is anything but easy.  In the time it takes to blink, they are on to the next feat.

I will admit I am a bit of a bubble-wrap-mom and as crazy as this juggling act was, it was also an obstacle for me to overcome my overprotective ways.  I have been focusing on loosening the ties and encouraging my children’s independence.

“He trains my hands for battle; he strengthens my arm to draw a bronze bow.” (Ps. 18:34)

Just as the Lord does for us, I am gently training my kids to succeed in life and strengthening them to be prepared and well equipped.  I am guilty of doing too much for them sometimes and need to remind myself to pull back and let them do things on their own.  I must say, I enjoy having a front row seat in watching them develop and figure things out and I am thankful to be with them every step of the way!

This has been a memorable year of overcoming stumbling blocks.  We are breaking the chains and experiencing total and complete freedom.  We did it! And it feels incredible!

“I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.” (Phil. 4:13)

  1. You can do it! Learning to get out with a bunch of littles is hard, but it’s really worth it to maintain mom’s sanity and keep up grown up friendships. I was lucky; when I had 4, 4 and under, I *also* had a 6 year old and a 9/10 year old, so they could help out a bit. We have 10 now (with 8 still at home) and when I only have little ones at home, I realize what a big help the older kids are.

    1. Wow! Incredible!! Way to go momma! Thanks for sharing. Truly an inspiration 😀 10 beautiful children, you are definitely greatly blessed!
