If you’ve seen me before noon on any given day, you’ll notice me sipping on my greens.  I absolutely LOVE starting my day off with a green smoothie for breakfast! They give me energy and make me feel good from the inside out.  Greens have helped my hair, skin and eyes and yes, they taste great!

Most green foods are rich in vitamins A, C, E & K and many of the B vitamins. They also have high levels of iron, folate, zinc, calcium, magnesium, potassium and fibre.  In addition, they offer antioxidants and are full of phytonutrients.

Be sure to rotate your greens! Too much of one thing is never a good thing.  My leafy favourites are kale, romaine and spinach. You can also use arugula, bok choy, collard greens, cabbage etc. I like to combine two different types in my smoothies.  A high powered blender (Vitamix/Blendtec) will work best and give you the smoothest consistency; however, any blender will do.

Below is a recipe for a basic green smoothieYou can even start by adding a small handful of greens to your current breakfast smoothie. The options are endless! Personally, my fruit of choice is frozen mango or pineapple but any will do.  Just keep in mind if you use berries it will alter the colour but still offer the same great taste.
